1. Because of technology, we have all changed the way we think and search for information.
2. Finding information on the net has become so easy that when we actually need to read an article online that we don’t even read the article now. Most people just skim an article for main points or references. Carr’s example of the internet and taking information is “Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski.” Scott Karp, a blog writer has also stated that he has stopped to read books altogether because it is so easy to search for an answer online. Reading through the internet, we lose the mental connection because we are easily distracted online. We can do 100 more things online other than reading.
3. I feel as though both the theses for Carr’s and Postman’s books are the same, they just happen to use different types of media. Postman’s book was during the time when the television was big and had much to offer. Carr’s article is talking about now, the internet. The net has opened us all up to new possibilities and information. Which ever media is available to us, it will have the power to influence our lifestyles and choices we make.
4. The Google video was very funny. I think it’s a very accurate portrayal of what we can look forward too. I know that if I don’t know how to spell something when I’m searching through Google, it still happens to find what I’m looking for. It’s actually pretty creepy if you think about it.
5. I definitely agree with Carr’s idea and how we are conforming to this new technology. There is no way around avoiding the inventions around us. We have so many resources out there that give us information from all different aspects. It is hard to think on our own with all of the technology that we have access to.

My Project Censored Story
Cruelty and Death in Juvenile Detention Centers.
1. Reading the story in Project Censored 2009, I learned about juvenile detention homes in our country that do not follow any standards and are not properly supervised. Many of the detention centers that are used are private and state owned facilities that utilize harmful restraint techniques and allow the living conditions to be unbearable. The US Justice Department has filed lawsuits against many facilities across the nation to help improve the detention centers and protect the children inside them.
2. The US Justice Department lacks the power to shutdown a juvenile facility. Failing to notice the conditions of juvenile facilities and delegating national standards makes it difficult to track the abuse or neglected. According to a survey, 13,000 claims of abuse in juvenile facilities were made during 2004 to 2007; the total amount of adolescents in the facilities was about 46,000 during that time. Five deaths have been determined since 2004 due to aggressive restraints.

Winter Break Media Experience

Before break, I had a class with Elaine Young, who taught us all about Twitter and how important it is. Because I had mixed feelings after the lecture about the new social networking site I figured that I would just try it out. So when I had free time over break I would test it out. So I signed up and I started to follow a few people, a few people started to follow me. It a very interesting tool and can be informative but In all honesty it’s not my favorite tool to use but I do see where it comes in handy. Since I have so many things to do before the school year ends, I don’t have much time to sit around at my computer and “tweet”.
When I used Twitter, I definitely used my neocortex; I was reading people’s statuses on Twitter and writing my own. The persuasive techniques on Twitter that I found were, humor, plain folks, beautiful people, and testimonial. Many of the statuses that I read were actually very funny or giving a testimonial. Most people who I began following were plain folks, everyday people. However, many “beautiful people” like Britney Spears or Obama, use Twitter. Two general principles throughout Twitter were emotional transfer and individual meaning. Users on Twitter are able to express however they feel and through their statements. Twitter is used for many different reasons for all. The matrix for Twitter was definitely surveillance. At one point during my Twitter use, I felt like a stalker since I was able to read what everyone said and thought!
